It gets overwhelming–all the information out there. Some great, some not-so-great. What we really need is a quick checklist: do this, not that. Or, step-by-step action plans to get us from where we are now, to where we want to be. I wrote this post to help you sift through all the noise and point you to the best of the best: the people, information, and resources that are going to make the most positive impact on your business.
The best of the best from the last week in July 2014:
1. Sarah Von Bargen – Sarah is just my favorite right now–and for good reason. She consistently provides incredibly useful information–and delivers it with style. ADORE. This week, her post 8 Things You Can (and Should!) Do When Business is Slow is full of completely doable, super productive ideas to fill in those business lulls entrepreneurs experience from time to time.
It’s hard to pick just one, but if I had to select a favorite tip from this article it’s:
Optimize some of your older, high-traffic posts and re-promote them.”
–simply brilliant (and time effective too).
2. Mike Michalowicz – I know I’ve been talking about Mike a lot lately–but it’s because I care. His latest book, Profit First, has already made a profound and positive difference in they way I manage my money–and I know it will do the same for you. Get your copy here (and please share your thoughts on this status-quo-shattering, epiphany-inducing book with me after you’ve read it!).
A favorite quote from this book (seriously difficult to pick just one):
If you spend one more second worrying about the size of your business while compromising a strong bottom line, your business is unhealthy at best.”
.
3. Chris LoCurto – I’ve been a Chris LoCurto student for a while now, because he is an amazingly insightful business and leadership expert. What I appreciate about him even more, however, is his deep faith in God. His post, 5 Ways To Work As Unto The Lord, is a must read for anyone who might be wondering if what they are doing now is what they should be doing at all. It applies whether you’re running your own business or working for someone else.
My favorite takeaway from this post:
You have to know that God has a reason and a purpose for everything in your life.”
4. Michael Hyatt – Michael Hyatt is teaching me how to build my own Platform–and after 15 years of building everyone elses’ (which has been fun, don’t get me wrong!), I am grateful for his leadership in approaching my business differently this time around. Now I can sustain and grow my own online presence while I’m helping others do the same.
Last week, he posted an article that is vitally important to understand if you are trying to build a strong and lasting presence online: Don’t Build Your Social Media House on a Rented Lot. If you’ve ever been confused about whether or not you need a website to build your business, this is some excellent wisdom from an online leader you can take to the bank.
Best tip from this post:
I encourage everyone interested in growing a platform to begin with a home base that you control.”
5. Pat Flynn – I think inspiring stories from people who’ve found a way to build a successful business starting from scratch should be a weekly part of every entrepreneurs diet. Pat’s podcast interview with Dwight Peters is just that. I also love Pat Flynn’s blog and podcasts in general–he is generous and authentic and it comes through in all of his content. On top of that, I can’t even begin to list all I’ve learned from him when it comes to online business. Although this link was actually posted a couple weeks ago, I have to include it here because it’s a dose of informative inspiration I know you’ll love: Broke on a Friend’s Couch to Successful Entrepreneur with Dwight Peters of BackersHub.
A favorite quote from this podcast:
When I say I was broke, I was broke. But we don’t want to do stuff for the money, we wanted to create value.”
6. Justin Wise – I only became aware of Justin Wise this past week. I’m sure glad I did. Justin founded Think Digital Academy which is a brilliant (and very affordable) online learning platform for entrepreneurs who want to: “…learn how to use social media to get more traffic, customers, clicks, shares, purchases, and involvement in less time.”
Last week, Justin hosted this terrific information-packed webinar with guest experts like Jeff Goins and Mari Smith which is still available right here.
My favorite quote from Justin’s webinar:
If you are consistent, you are creating momentum you don’t even realize.” – Jeff Goins
7. Norma Maxwell – If I don’t think my own content is crazy helpful, then what am I doing anyway? I do actually, or I wouldn’t share it. Last week’s post was about the importance of a Mobile Friendly website: 10 Reasons Your Website Must be Mobile Friendly to be Competitive. I could have shared the statistics alone and called it day. They are truly staggering.
The most compelling statistic from this post:
91% of adults keep their smartphones within arms reach 24/7″ (Morgan Stanley)
