Over the past few weeks since I’ve been back, I’ve spoken to two small business PR clients who are moving their products from Etsy to creating their own websites. They have some really great products, but they need a little counsel when it comes to creating website that really does their products justice.
When it comes to product-driven websites, I’ve written about the importance of good photography as it relates to public relations and having a great site goes hand in hand with great photography. Your website is one of the primary tools in your pitch notes to the media so you want the site to be professional, eye-catching and interesting. Of course there are many other important factors such as ease-of-use, search engine optimization, and newsletter sign ups that make a website successful, but I’m only speaking about the aesthetics for the purposes of this post. I also think it’s worth noting that you don’t have to spend a TON of money when it comes to creating a website that you’ll be proud to show off.
Whenever I see a website that has really nailed it, I always make a quick note to keep in my inspirational arsenal. There are TONS of fabulous websites so I thought I would share a few of those with you here:
The Honest Company – Clearly all small businesses don’t have Jessica Alba size budgets, but I think it’s still worth noting – the colors, product shots, graphics are all perfection. Plus, the addition of video is always a smart move. I said inspirational, right?
With Love From Brooklyn – I couldn’t write this post without mentioning one of my favorite clients! Take note of the super sweet logo and graphics. Plus, the food shots make you want to place an order asap!
Tiny Hands Jewelry – This adorable jewelry company has been on my radar (and on my Christmas list for my nieces), and I think she’s done a great job with her site – the photography is not fancy, but the pieces are shot clean and simple. In many cases, rather than a big elaborate photo shoot, clean and simple is all you need.
Brooklyn Cruiser – Of course I had to mention hubby’s company! In addition of just some straightforward product shots, the photography also included some nice lifestyle shots which helps you easily envision yourself cruising around on a hip commuter bike.
Any great websites to share that inspire you? I’d love to hear!
