Make-the-World-and-Your-Business-a-Better-Place-with-Your-Blog

If you’re reading this, you’re probably an entrepreneur. Creative entrepreneurs are my people. I love them, work for and with them, and never stop being inspired by them. When I think about what I want to write for my blog, I think about them (you). I think about my clients, and people like them who are working hard on a daily basis to create something special through their business. Tirelessly creative people.

These are the people who make it look so good and effortless from the outside, you’d never guess the sweat, tears, and overwhelm they experience trying to make sure their message is heard in this noisy online world.

Maybe you can relate? I know I can. Especially after taking a year away from my business to take care of my boys educational needs–talk about a loss of online visibility and community. It was like starting from scratch!

I won’t tell you it wasn’t scary to step back online. Since I didn’t have truckloads of money for advertising, I knew it was going to take time, consistency, and patience to rebuild the momentum I had lost. I also knew I didn’t want my time to be spent only promoting my business. I need new clients to pay the bills just like everyone else, but more importantly, I can make a difference with my message. I can shine a light in the dark places of overwhelm and confusion people sometimes feel when it comes to their online presence, and be positive and encouraging when people need it most.

Coming back to my business, I knew I wanted to use my platform to not only grow my audience, but also to better the lives of my clients, community, and by association the world to the best of my ability.

When I write a blog post (or social media post, or any marketing communication), I think about what I can give my clients, customers, community, and audience to improve their lives and business. How can I help them reach their goals or solve their problems?

If you start to approach your blog in this way, you’ll find you end up with plenty of ideas about what to write for your blog. And guess what happens next? The people that need to hear it will start getting your message! They learn you’re the go-to person for help in your area of expertise. Even better, they like and trust you because you helped them improve something in their life or business. The next thing you know, you’re using your blog to build a relationship with your audience, grow your business and make the world better all at the same time. What’s better than that?

Your audience doesn’t only need your product or service–they’re not just customers, clients, and prospects. They’re multi-faceted, complex human beings that need everything you’ve got to give. They need different things on different days. Maybe they need advice, encouragement, or reminders of what they already know but probably forgot. Or maybe they simply need to know someone else understands what they’re struggling with at the moment. They need people who can help them through challenges, and champion them as they celebrate their victories.

You might be thinking you don’t have time to do all that–you’ve got a business to run, right? But we all know that we need to create content for our business, so why not create it in a way that provides all this and more for people–it’s the time investment with double the impact.

If you’re serving your clients, customers, and audience, you know them (if you don’t know them, learning everything you can about them is your priority; because you won’t be able to reach them otherwise). If you know them as well as you should, there’s no one better equipped to help them get what they need. And trust me, the majority of businesses won’t bother with any of that. It’s sell, sell, sell, and what are the numbers? If that’s the kind of business you want, it’s seriously unlikely you’re reading this blog, so read on.

How to come up with world-changing ideas: get some paper or notepad on your computer and start jotting down what your ideal people need and want, and then write about it. Some ideas might include:

  • advice + tips from experts who have done what they’re striving to do themselves
  • inspirational interviews with superstars who’ve been there, done that and overcome insurmountable odds along the way
  • tutorials or how-tos in your own area of expertise (who better to show them than you?)
  • resources and tools they can use to more efficiently get their work done
  • encouraging or motivating words that help them stay focused on their goals
  • solutions to their problems (make a list of all their pain points and start writing a series of posts about how to solve them)
  • something funny to help them remember this journey should be fun
  • a peek into your own business and struggles, and what you’ve learned along the way
  • relevant industry news and events that could impact they way they do business
  • reviews on products and services that they can use to improve the flow of their business and life

When you write blog posts that help, serve, encourage, enlighten, and brighten the lives of those who read it, you’ve just made the world (and your business) a better place.

The more consistently you do so (and share through your blog, newsletter, and social media), the more people will see and be impacted by your content. The right people will start hiring your or buying your products–and the rest will simply be better off for having “met” you. It doesn’t get much better than that.
