Will Google's Algorithm Changes HATE Your Website?

It’s hard to keep up with all the changes on the internet, isn’t it?

Facebook’s great, Facebook’s a waste of time. Meerkat’s the new Vine, Twitter launched Periscope and Meerkat is over.

None of us need to add new items to our ‘things to worry about’ list, but I’m afraid Google just added a bullet point. Starting April 21st, 2015, Google will be favoring (highly favoring) mobile responsive sites.

What’s a mobile responsive website?
It’s any website that displays correctly on your smartphone or tablet. Mobile responsive means it’s the same website on all devices, but it scales gracefully to fit the size of the device on which it’s being viewed. It loads quickly and the design elements are all where they should be. Simple, clean design and big buttons that make it easy to interact with the content.

Responsive vs. Non-Responsive

What happens if your site isn’t mobile responsive?
It’s less likely to attract traffic, readers, and sales. In short, your online findability goes way down because Google is going to give preference in search to sites that are mobile responsive.

How can you tell if your site is mobile responsive?
Thankfully, this part is painless. Go here, type your url into the box, and Google will tell you if your site is mobile responsive or not.

What should you do if your site isn’t mobile responsive?
If your site isn’t coded to be responsive, think about upgrading. If you’re on WordPress, I can help!

If you’re on another platform, reach out to a web developer you know and trust to see what they can do to help. Remember to let them know your site needs to be mobile friendly as defined by Google.

Do you have any questions about these changes and how they’ll affect you? Leave your questions in the comments and I’ll be sure to answer them or point you in the right direction.
